Have you ever seen a raptor in the sky and wondered what type it was? Improve your raptor identification skills at HawkTalks!
Offered by HawkWatch International, this five-session series will help adults and precocious youth become familiar with raptors of Utah. In the end, you'll be spotting these majestic creatures and calling them by name!
All sessions will be held at the Museum on scheduled Saturdays. Programs are offered free; advanced reservations are not required

Falcons, Vultures and Osprey If vultures eat dead things, then what do Ospreys eat? Compare the chiseled wings of a falcon with the large wings of the vulture and osprey.

Accipiters These three raptors are a challenge to tell apart because they look so alike! Who can be found near your bird feeder? Who lives mostly at high elevations? We'll discuss key identification characteristics that will make it easier to identifying them.

Buteos It's a bird of a different color! This group of raptors appears to come in a variety of colors. To make things a little easier, we'll learn the basic color schemes and where each of them lives. |

Eagles Bald Eagles aren't really bald, but Golden Eagles are really golden. There are only two types of eagles in Utah, but until they are adults, they can be confusing. Learn a couple of tricks to make eagle identification a little easier! |
