Thursday, November 12 UMNH research curator Scott Sampson will kick-off the national tour for his new book, Dinosaur Odyssey, with a public lecture in Salt Lake City. As a paleontologist and evolutionary biologist, Scott's research has raised many questions about the adorned and bizarre dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous period.
At this lecture, Scott will discuss the research and controversies raised by his discoveries in his compelling style that will appeal to all ages. This event will be held at Judge Memorial High School and be followed by a booksigning.

UMNH Bug Brigade Handles Crawly Creatures Twice Each Month
Friday, November 13 & Saturday, November 21 Get face-to-face with some local and exotic arthropods when the Bug Brigade invades the UMNH lobby this month. The buggy corps of volunteers will have Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, Pinacate beetles, tarantulas and millipedes out and about for guests to see.
More bugs can be seen at our live bug zoo, Bugs Alive! located on the second floor of the museum. Our bug zoo holds a praying mantis, wolf spider, and potato bugs... and much, much more!

Saturday, November 14 Calling all Girl Scouts who want to earn badge while having fun at UMNH! Bring your troop and we will provide the location, the instructors, the activities and the supplies!
Girl Scout Brownies and Juinors can register for Science in Action & Science Wonders or the Rocks Rock Badge Workshops. Hands-on activities and real Museum specimens make this an exciting and fun way for your child or troop to earn a badge!

New Museum Building Update

Follow the construction of New Utah Museum of Natural History at the Rio Tinto Center The infrastructure for the north side of the new museum building is nearing completion! The construction team is anticipating having it enclosed within the month. You can follow the construction of the Museum's new home, the Rio Tinto Center, every day via our webcam or by walking, hiking, biking or running by on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail! Located on the University of Utah campus, along the foothills overlooking the Salt Lake Valley, the new Museum is anticipated to open in late 2011.
